Automatically remove cover pages and blank pages

Step-by-step instructions for automatically removing pages from PDF files

Scanned documents often contain unwanted pages such as separator sheets, cover pages, or blank pages. With Automatic PDF Processor, you can automatically remove these unnecessary pages.

Typical use cases

  • Remove scanner separator sheets
  • Remove blank pages from scanned documents
  • Remove cover pages from standardized documents
  • Remove specific page ranges
  • Keep only certain pages

Step 1: Create a new profile

Create a new profile with a descriptive name such as "Remove blank pages". Set up the monitored folder.

Step 2: Activate the "Remove Pages" task

Step 3: Select removal method

Choose which pages should be removed:

Method Description Example
Specific pages Remove specific page numbers "1" (first page), "1,3,5" (multiple pages)
Page range Remove a range of pages "1-3" (first three pages)
From end Remove pages from the end "Last 2 pages"
Blank pages Remove pages with no content All white/empty pages
By content Remove pages containing specific text Pages with "SEPARATOR"

Step 4: Configure blank page detection (optional)

When removing blank pages, you can configure the detection sensitivity:

  • Threshold: Maximum amount of content for a page to be considered blank
  • Include near-blank: Also remove pages with very little content
  • Ignore margins: Ignore content in margins when detecting blank pages

Step 5: Set minimum page count

Optionally set a minimum page count. If the document would have fewer pages than the minimum after removal, the removal is skipped or adjusted.

Example: Set minimum to 1 to ensure at least one page remains.

Step 6: Configure storage location

Specify where the cleaned documents should be saved:

D:\Documents\Cleaned\<FileName>
Storage location for cleaned documents

Result

After configuration, all PDF files placed in the monitored folder are automatically:

  • Analyzed to identify pages to remove
  • Specified pages removed from the document
  • Saved as a cleaned PDF file

Tips & notes

  • Test first: Test the page removal with sample documents to ensure the correct pages are removed.
  • Keep originals: Consider keeping original files in case you need to access removed pages later.
  • Combine tasks: You can combine page removal with other tasks, such as renaming or moving files.
