Scanned PDF files often contain nothing but an image of
the page - their text can neither be searched nor
copied. In this tutorial, we set up a profile that
automatically makes new scans searchable using text
recognition.

00:00:19.349 --> 00:00:22.449
First, give the profile a meaningful name.

00:00:23.449 --> 00:00:33.849
On the Monitored folders page, select the folder where
your scanner saves its files. Every new PDF file placed
there is picked up automatically.

00:00:34.849 --> 00:00:39.899
Use the Add task button to add the task Make file
searchable.

00:00:40.899 --> 00:00:46.799
The task appears in the list - text recognition is now
basically ready to use.

00:00:47.799 --> 00:00:59.999
Enter a target folder where the searchable file should
be saved. The original remains untouched. If you do not
need a copy, you can have the original file overwritten
instead.

00:01:00.999 --> 00:01:12.549
Select the language of the document contents - it
determines how accurately the text is recognized. The
button next to it lets you install more than one
hundred additional languages.

00:01:13.549 --> 00:01:25.599
Very useful for scans: the option Correct page
orientation automatically turns rotated pages the right
way up. Skewed pages can also be straightened
automatically if needed.

00:01:26.599 --> 00:01:40.199
Files that already contain text are ignored by default
- this avoids unnecessary text recognition.
Alternatively, you can process such files anyway or
just copy them to the target folder.

00:01:41.199 --> 00:01:50.949
And that's it: from now on, the Automatic PDF Processor
automatically turns every new scan into a searchable
PDF file.
